The idea for the Topping Chair developed initially from an identified need of midwives. I became increasingly aware that changes in methods of child-delivery and best clinical practice were making health-care professionals susceptible to knee injuries related to their working methods – a concern that could also have litigation implications for their employers.
And so it was that I began to develop the Topping Chair. Once plans for the concept were realised it also became obvious that it would not only benefit health professionals and those they care for, but would also be a significant employment asset to anyone involved in work that involved kneeling or bending at low levels. Research has indicated that kneeling and squatting damages knees. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and will be keen to offer this safe alternative to those working at low levels.
It will be available in a range of attractive colours that complement the work environment. Made from recyclable materials it will incorporate anti microbial impregnated polypropylene; it is durable but light and easy to clean. The height ranges from 240mm to 450mm and will lock at various levels as required. It is lightweight and portable, folds simply to transport or can be carried easily in its distinctive tote bag or carry strap.
